Anyone know the history of this area or anything else about it?

Don't think there is much of a history for this one.

I ran a search, couldn't even find it having been used in a DM event, although those records are incomplete due to the Hackah-tack, was mostly hoping that some of our Elder statesmen would know something about it.

I cannot recall it ever having been part of any event or anything.

I think it is one of our old "we need mobs" places. >.>

I'd say player imagination can be used. There is some lore in game on it (I think it was the bio of the Lich or his staff that had it)

A mage exiled from wharftown for trying to make undead fish-monsters found that crypt and made it his lair imbuing his creations with fire and as it became one of his fetishes he turned to Lichdom to become immortal and continued his work!

Or the DMs can just say whatever they want about it. :D

It's like a scythe, but spelled by Swedes.

Pretty much answered my question. *Begins sculpting an overhaul and turning it into the Burning Schythe Crypts*

*makes up a story out of thin air*

The undead here are burning, and eternally so, trapped as a punishment for their (disagreeable) ways. None dared to defy the mage tyrant that ruled these lands centuries ago, for fear they would end up in the -Crypt-.

Not all of them were bad souls, but their undead nature and decades upon decades of pure misery have turned them to attack and harm the foreign living 'intruders'.

Once the mortal tyrant became later in years, nearing his natural end, he knew that his magic might be weakened and the souls of the crypt might seek revenge upon him, in order to prevent this 'justice', with his last act he sealed himself as both gatekeeper and guardian, to eternally ensure both their wrath and their will, be forever withheld, dominated within,

The Burning Crypt

*throws in some lord of the rings*

"This pass was made by the dead, and the dead keep it." *intro flaming zombies*

The hero of the day, seeks to destroy the Tyrant (at the end of the dungeon) and set (at least) some of the souls free. (but he's something of a lich and keeps coming back to give other adventurers something to do)
