I'd like to ask how much lore is known regarding Deity Rings. I'm curious as to how they are created. How they are able to be enchanted and restricted to certain races and classes. Is it true they are forged by priests who are devoted to the said deity? Or are they actually rings created by the gods themselves?

If you are going where I am thinking... there are other players working on the same thing :)

Yes there are true IC reasons for this Lore query. Of course my brownie character is most interested in showing his loyalty and devotion to Titania with a Ring of Titania. But also Greta Solveig has a problem, as she is trully devoted to Moradin, her heart is dwarven and yet the Ring of Moradin is race restricted to dwarves. I wonder if with RP, a priest could possibly make a seperate Ring of Moradin suited for the exceptional devoted ones. If it is at all possible, I'm contemplating a request thread.

But I'd like to learn more about deity rings first before I decide.

Ostensibly, the popular "deity rings" hit the adventuring market five years ago. It took several months for them to catch on, but when they finally did, they became popular in adventuring meccas like Cormyr, where almost every vendor in Suzail tried to pitch one to the adventuring populace, and up and down the Sword Coast where adventurers love to hang out in the hopes of getting paid to kill/maim/rob somebody in the name of goodness and light.

No one is certain of the manufacturer because due to adventuring diaspora and a sudden ridiculously high demand, the proliferation of the deity rings spread far beyond their intended local market (assumed to have been Suzail, though some analysts have concluded that the original manufacturer may have created hundreds of them and sold them at high prices to several markets in different mainland cities with the intent to create a demand before buying them back and reselling them for well over twice the original price).

The Deity Rings quickly evolved from being a mere utilitarian boon for adventurers to being a status symbol. Much like the "god in your pocket" serialized pocketbooks printed by Lantan Literature Unlimited (LLC) in 1371, a limited collector's set of individual pocketbooks containing the most rudimentary publication of the public domain dogma and rites of several major religions, the Deity Rings became the "god on your finger" collector's set of the latter half of the 1370s. Adventurers purchased them for many reasons, but ultimately conspicuous consumption outweighed sheer utility. Some theorize that the cultural impact of the Time of Troubles on faith-based worship amongst the peoples of Toril made it all the more meaningful to openly display your faith in a deity who lived and walked the earth.

Some particularly wealthy adventurers and nobles began a campaign to collect all of the deity rings. Though it was simply the frivolous act of people with too much money and too much time on their hands, the trend was disliked by many middle-classers and have-nots. They decried the trend as either a sign that these collectors were symbolically placing themselves above the gods by treating their worldly implements as little more than trinkets for the mantlepiece, or that they were the worst kind of shysters, capitalizing upon individual faith to make huge profits by retailing not simply individual rings but complete Deity Ring sets for exorbitant prices in excess of five million gold.

The Deity Ring set has become a solid staple in many adventuring meccas, now including the island of Amia in the middle of the Trackless Sea.

Recently, a supposed 2nd Edition of the Deity Ring set became available, but it appeared initially only on the aforementioned island of Amia and from there proliferated back to the mainland. Due to this differentiation in release between the 1st and 2nd Editions of the Deity Ring set, experts and collectors alike have contended that the 2nd Edition is unauthentic and contains deity rings promised to much lesser known and lesser regarded deities, as well as some re-releases of original models with slightly altered enchantments.

Regardless, the 2nd Edition has been incorporated into the 1st Edition by avid collectors, who say that, regardless of authenticity, the pieces are original, useful, and make for a larger, rounder, and more complete Deity Ring Set.

Several notable churches have responded to the mass popularity of Deity Rings. The Churches of the Triad, as well as the Churches of Lathander, Bane, and Kelemvor have been particularly critical of the Deity Rings, claiming that they were neither created nor sponsored by the parent churches and are, in truth, simply arcane baubles masquerading as divine implements.

The Churches of Waukeen and Sune, by contrast, have been very complimentary of the Deity Rings. Though they admit the Deity Rings were never sanctioned by their churches, they each encourage their continued popularity due to both their retail value and their inherent, charming craftsmanship.

The Church of Tempus encourages their use for an entirely different reason - pure victory in combat. Holy Strategists of the Red Knight in particular recommend collecting several of the Deity Rings and to swap them out as necessary to meet the needs of your conflict with the highest probability of success...regardless of your own personal faith.

I just wanted to bump this with a question:

Is there any way to obtain a list of all the deity rings that are out there? I have a character that is attempting to gather them all with intent on auctioning them for a rather noble cause, but it's hard to say which ones he has left to find, heh. Obviously I'd like an IC way to find out. I thought of the ATF, but wasn't sure if they had the information. Though I have one other possible avenue of finding out, though I don't really think the informant I had in mind would know.

There were several deities added to Amia recently who do not appear in that list. Do they have rings or are their rings planned to be added to the list at a later date? Specifically of Asmodeus, Baervan Wildwanderer, Dallah Thaun, Flandal Steelskin, Gaerdal Ironhand, Io, and Segojan Earthcaller. The bold-italiscised ones in the Quote by PaladinOfSune are on the list. I had a cleric of Io for some time and I have been wondering if she will ever have a chance at finding her deity ring. :)

I would think that new ones would not be added simply because the deity rings were created a while back by whoever (I think Yoss' post covered that, just haven't read it again recently) as sets. There were two sets, and so it would be unlikely unless they, or someone else, released another set.

But just because they are newer deities to Amia does not mean they might not have been included in a 2nd Edition set of rings. That there are several rings already made from the list of newly added deities to the Deity System makes me think that some of the deities that remain on that list might get rings later. Which is why I was asking.

That's a good point, I didn't think of that. Guess we will wait for someone more in the know to post :3

That's not really a lore question. There are much more pressing things to get done on Amia than rings though, so don't hold your breath!
